Stream any PC game to your PS3 with no lag

Got Linux on your PS3? Don't want to sit in front of your computer anymore, but still want to play those PC games you know and love? The tutorial video above lets you figure out how to do just that. The company behind the magic, StreamMyGame, deserves props for figuring this out. What's interesting to note is that lag isn't an obstacle (not even if you're streaming Crysis) because the streaming is on a home network and not the internet. Internet plans are in the works, though. But really, that's just icing on this sweet cake.

Team InFeCtuS announced their 'Time Attack PCB' is now available (RRP 9,90Eur). Together with the InFeCtuS1/2 chip this PCB will allow you to perform the 'Timing Attack' on your Xbox360 and downgrade your kernel. This allows you to go back to an exploitable hypervisor and run Linux on your Xbox360, extract CPUkey and change keyvault (KV) stuff like DVDkey and game region.
They also released a picture of the final/retail build of the 'Time Attack PCB'.

Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Following on from his finger tracking and digital white board projects, Johnny Lee has now created another very interesting Wii remote product - a head tracking application for desktop VR displays. Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment.

Backwards compatible Xbox games showing up on Gamercards

Knuckles Dawson informed Xbox 360 Fanboy that backward compatible Xbox games are now showing up on Xbox 360 Gamercards after the Fall Update. The games do not appear on Xbox.com Gamercards, only on the 360 itself (under the Games Played tab in the Games blade.) The games are listed with the notice "0 of 0 Achievements." Also, only games you've played since the Fall Update will show up.

XP SP3 Performance Claims Further Harm Vista

Word is Windows XP Service Pack 3 is shaping up to be a lot more interesting than Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

Unlike Microsoft's latest and not-yet-greatest OS which will see a myriad of bug fixes and security holes patched with little visible benefit to the end user, Florida computer reseller Devil Mountain Systems is claiming SP3 will be a "must-have update" with up to a 10 per cent performance boost over SP2.

"Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release - unlike w/Vista SP1, Microsoft made no promises of improved performance for XP - the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus," said the company on its blog.

"Of course, none of this bodes well for Vista which is now more than 2x slower than the most current builds of its older sibling," it added. "Suffice to say that performance-minded users will likely choose to stick with the now even speedier Windows XP - at least until more "Windows 7" information becomes publicly available."

Now while I again stress caution/wait for Release Candidate builds, etc - DMS does have hands-on experience with SP3 and it is sounding a mighty good offering.

Is Microsoft actually stitching up Vista by making XP ever more appealing? Maybe, but then again it should have just built a better replacement OS in the first place...

Toshiba to launch 128GB SSD in May

Toshiba will be jumping into the deep end of the pool, joining several other companies that have announced new solid state drives.

Toshiba is unique, however, by announcing that it will produce a 128GB SSD drive that will be launching in the May 2008 time frame, while the flash memory that is being produced for the drives should start rolling off the line some time in March 2008. In other to reach the 128GB drive capacity, Toshiba will be using 56nm density NAND flash with multi-level cells, which was key in being able to reach this size.

Toshiba will be offering the drives in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities. The drive will feature a SATA 2 interface and will be available in both the 1.8” and 2.5” form factors, which will make it not only ideal for laptops (which normally use the 2.5” form factor), but other devices that normally use drives in the 1.8-inch form factor. The SSD drives are said to be rated at a blistering 100MB per second for reads, and a reasonable 40MB per second for writes. The drive will carry an operating life of about 1,000,000 hours.

Porn Coming to Blu-ray

The porn industry, having steered clear of Blu-ray and successfully put out titles on HD DVD for the past year, has decided to give the competing HD format a shot. Digital Playground has plans to release Pirates, an adaptation of Treasure Island as I understand it, on BR as its first foray into the format.

Intel to delay launch of three 45nm quad-core CPUs because of poor AMD performance

Intel has recently adjusted its product strategy and will postpone three 45nm quad-core CPUs that were originally scheduled to launch in January next year, according to sources at motherboard makers.

Intel has already notified its partners that it will push back the launch of the three CPUs to February or March next year, depending on AMD's schedule for triple-core and the upcoming Phenom CPUs.

Launching the CPUs now will not benefit Intel much in its battle with AMD, while they could cause damage to Intel's 65nm quad-core CPUs, therefore the company has decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat.

The three CPUs that Intel plans to delay are the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550, added the sources.

Intel commented that its launch of 45nm quad-core CPUs for desktops is on track for first quarter 2008, but declined to disclose a specific time-frame.

AMD to focus on multi-GPU cards for the high-end market

At the recent Analyst Day conference, AMD noted that it will focus on technology to put multiple GPUs onto a single card to form its new high-end graphics products.

AMD has already started working on the technology in its Radeon HD 3000 series, according to sources at graphics card makers. The first product will be the Radeon HD 3870 X2 which will feature two RV670XT GPUs and will launch in January 2008 with a price set between US$299-349, noted the sources.
